Hey there!
We are Dan and Barbara Goodrich. We started this farm in 2005 when Barbara bought the property in order to expand her thriving wedding business. In 2005, there were no improvements, and the only tree on the property was the 200-year old Oak Tree that now stand in the Ceremony area of the gardens. Needless to say, there was much to be done. In 2007, we drilled a well. In 2008, we brought in power. From there, we started building the gardens. When we met in 2006, we realized we had a lot in common. Dan liked shooting guns, Barbara liked shooting guns. Barbara loved anything camo, so did Dan. Dan loved the San Luis Obispo area, Barbara just bought 37-acres there. And that was just the beginning. From Dan proposing under the Oak Tree, to taking pregnant belly pics in front of it, and burying a beloved Bulldog under it. This farm has been built with blood, sweat, and happy tears. We hope you fall in love with it as much as we have, and it becomes part of your family as well!

– TRASH is located at the entrance of the property, by the old tractor. You do not need to take out the trash, or wash dishes. But please leave it all in one place. Campers: Don’t leave trash out – the wildlife will spread it everywhere – take it out to the dumpster.

| THINGS TO DO AT THE FARM Visit the Goats & Chickens The Goats, and Chickens are located by the Main House at the top of the property. Their pens are on the east side of the blue storage container. (Hint: the sun rises in the east, sets in the west) Our Goats: Dusty , Lucky ,and Ned LOVE company… and weeds, and veggie scraps. If can’t find weeds or veggie scraps, there is a Treat Machine by their pen. Bring your quarters! Dusty, Lucky, and Ned are all Nubian Goats. Nubian Goats are typically used for milking (females) or meat goats (males). But goat meat?! No thank you. We got them for organic weed control! Look at those faces – how could you eat them?! Our Chickens: The kids name the chickens – all of them… Fee-Foo 2, Ginger, Pecky, Happy-Scared, Mayflower, Ginnie, Lemon, Betty White, and Spotty are our hens with the goats. These ladies lay our Farm Fresh Eggs (available for sale in the Jam Shack). The kids can tell you which chicken laid what egg. They also love weeds ad veggie scraps. And if Eden is around, she can show you how to hypnotize a chicken. Need more eggs? Swing by the Jam Shack – $3/half dozen. Have a Picnic You have 37-acres to explore! The 2-acre garden area near the entrance was designed for a wedding and reception, but that doesn’t happen every day! Take a picnic out to the 8,000 square foot lawn and enjoy the shade of the Weeping Willow. Pick up a delicious wrap, salad, or panini at Full Belly Deli (1718 Commerce Wy., Paso Robles). You can order online at www.FullBellyDeliPR.com, and pick up – the line can be crazy. You will not be sorry. Yum! Open Mon-Fri 7am-2:30pm. Here on a weekend? Mr. Pickles (1477 Creston Rd., PR) is the next best option: www.MrPickles.com. Open Mon-Sat 10am-7pm, Sunday 10am-5pm. Take A Hike There is a semi-rural walking trail that follows the seasonal streambed from the big Oak tree in the gardens up to the goat pen. This walking path is lined with Chinese Elms, that had a hell of a time getting started. These poor Elms were some of the first trees planted on the property – before we had electricity to power the well! Once a week, we would rent a generator, fill the water tanks, and gravity feed all the trees we were planting. Any tree still alive on this path is a SURVIVOR. Feel free to go give them a little pep talk! You can also follow the stream bed all the way up until you hit a fence but WATCH OUT FOR SNAKES during any season. With Paso Robles having the highest per capita Restaurants to Population, you are bound to find something good. I’m just going to tell you our favorites, you can probably Yelp more options, but these ones are GOOD:

Breakfast with views of the Golf Course, Mimosas, Bloody Mary’s. Touch of Paso, 1414 Pine St., Paso Robles – Biscuits & Gravy, and all other breakfast standards. A-OK. BRUNCH, 840 13th Street, Paso Robles – Brunch serves brunch all day long, 5 days a week! Why wait for Sunday?! Maybe four choices is not enough! We love the French Brussel Sprouts, Sweet Potato Fries, and Lamb Slider. Thomas Hill Organics – 1313 Park Street, Paso Robles, 805-226-5888. New menu all the time with delicious farm-to-table options. This is one of our more “up-scale” restaurants. Street Side Ale House – 843 12th Street, Paso Robles, 805-257-1515. Start with Street Fries (perfectly fried French fries coated with pepper jack fondue, tossed with diced pepperoncinis, bacon, and rosemary. That is all. Oh ya, they have beer and cocktails and other stuff too. But Street Fries….. Goshi Japanese Restaurant – 722 Pine Street, Paso Robles 805-227-4860 Traditional Japanese BUT (They have a secret sushi roll menu. The Chris Roll, Linda Roll and the Robert Roll are our favs) Il Cortile – 608 12th Street, Paso Robles, 805-226-0300. Italian at its best – Sweet Corn Ravioli is my go-to, but the menu changes seasonally. Fish Gaucho – 1244 Park Street, Paso Robles, 805-239-3333 (If you go early for Happy Hour, be amazed by street tacos, and margaritas. If you go later, call for a reservation.) Hemingway’s – a real American Steakhouse. Pricey & amazing. If you are looking to celebrate something great, or if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, you should go here. Steak bites, French Onion Soup, Steak Dinner with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus….. all good choices. Taco Mafia – Authentic Mexican food, downtown San Miguel – pretty much the only thing San Miguel has going for it (besides Bingo at the Senior Center on the 2nd & 4th Friday night). GOOD food, family-owned & operated. Our favorites are the Taco Salad, Chile Relleno, and Carne Asada Tacos. 340 14th Street, San Miguel. PIZZA Need to stay in and relax? There is ONE Pizza joint that delivers. Lucky for us, it’s really good pizza! They take their sweet time getting out here though, so if you are hungry, just order to pick up. Pizza Express – 1920 Creston Road, Paso Robles, 805-239-1282 (For a large group, order ‘The Bearcat’. What could go wrong with a 3′ diameter pizza?!) If you want to go out: Marv’s Original Pizza Co. – 729 12th Street, Paso Robles, 805-238-1851 (Salads and pizza are fantastic. * NOTE: People often ask about attire for dinner. Know that, although there are some pretty amazing, swanky restaurants here, the dress code for Paso is jeans and boots, so never feel under dressed going out to eat. Seriously — no one judges here. And if they do, they must be from out-of-town.
| NIGHT LIFE Typical night life at the farm involves Frogs, Barn Owls, Crickets, and Coyotes. These friends will occasionally drop by unannounced, but don’t require much entertaining. If you are looking for a little more excitement, try here: –Vina Robles, in Paso Robles off Highway 46 West. They have great outdoor concerts! –Downtown Paso. A couple places stay open until 1 or 2am if it’s busy enough. Pappy MacGreggor’s is a family restaurant with awesome pub food by day – pub/dance club by night. Act like a local, and walk to the alley behind Pappy’s. Knock on the door between the two fiery sconces and discover Paso’s only speakeasy: Eleven Twenty-Two. For the oldest saloon in town, check out Pine Street Saloon (haunted much? That’s what they say). Newest place for a cocktail: Cane’s Tiki Room; you’ll feel like you walked into Disney’s Tiki Room – but with cocktails… -Downtown San Miguel. It’s sleeper, don’t count it out! We have the (second) OLDEST liquor license in California at The Elkhorn, a quiet bar with pretty much all locals, no food here but Manny’s Pizza or Taco Mafia will deliver. And if you are here on the 2nd or 4th Friday of the month, hit up Bingo at the Senior Center at 6pm. Those old folks love some fresh players. $1/game. |
| NON-WINE ACTIVITIES –The Ravine Water Park, $35 per adult; $25 per child under 42″; kids under 2 free. TIP: Rent a cabana for about $139/day and have full food and cocktail service brought to you. Bonus! Open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend only. –Hunter Ranch Golf Course. Aside from 18 holes, they also have a Sunday Brunch at the clubhouse, and their famous bacon really IS pretty darn good. –Estrella Warbird Museum – This museum is a private collection of military aircraft, vehicles, and memorabilia. Great for kids! Open Thursday to Sunday 10am to 4pm, and some holiday weekdays. – Mission San Miguel – Founded in 1797, Mission San Miguel is a National Historical Landmark that has been an important part of Central Coast history for over 200 years. This particular mission has the original frescos (paintings) in the chapel. Come experience the rich history of Mission San Miguel. – The Historic Rios-Caledonia Adobe – California Historical Landmark #936, this adobe dwelling was built in 1835 as a private residence, and was later used as an inn, stagecoach stop, hotel, tavern, elementary school, mattress factory, and tailor shop. With the variety of energy, and years of history, you think it might be home to a specter or two? Cocktails is only about 5 minutes away and offers their signature cocktail mixers for sampling but also a Cocktail Making Class! Tastings and demos are just $15 per person, from 1-25 guests. Here are some of our FAVORITES: BON NICHE CELLARS | This boutique winery at the top of the hill is a great spot to take in the view of wine country. Retired navy nurse, Melanie is the mastermind behind this sleepy place that will knock your socks off. The TRDC will get you 2 for 1 wine tasting, and 10% off a bottle purchase. Open by Appointment: (805) 286-7798 CINQUAIN CELLARS | Don’t be fooled by this simple exterior. This tasting room is jam packed with amazing, award-winning wines. Megan & Spencer (the owners) might be pouring behind the counter. These young spitfires took on this vineyard (formerly Ranchita Canyon Vineyards) and have poured their heart and soul into reviving it with some exciting new wines. Give them the TRDC for a Complimentary Tasting (up to 4 people). Open Thurs-Mon 11am-5pm. GRAVEYARD VINEYARDS | Just a mile down the street, and the wine is “To Die For”. Follow the driveway to the top of the hill, past the big yellow house with the wrap-around porch, and park by the big pond. Tastings are in the barn. The TRDC is for a 10% off discount. Open Thurs-Mon 11am-5pm. LOCATELLI VINEYARDS & WINERY | Take a trip down the winding roads of San Miguel to visit this beautiful place. Drive through their vineyard lined drive to the adorable tasting room and try these hand-crafted wines that have been made for generations in San Miguel. Look for the TRDC for a Complimentary Tasting for Two & 10% off any Wine Purchase. Open Fri-Sunday 11-4pm. MYSTIC HILLS | One of our favorite drives through the back country, with vineyards as far as you can see. This family-owned winery is a hobby for Joel and Judy, who host an infamous movie-night for their wine club in August (most likely a Clint Eastwood flick that Joel worked on). No tasting room discount card needed here; Complimentary Tastings are their thing when you mention Hartley Farms sent you. Open Thurs-Mon 11-5pm TACKITT FAMILY VINEYARDS | A short drive up the road, you will find this family owned and operated vineyard. Leon works tirelessly for EOD Warrior Foundation, and holds an annual fundraiser to support our wounded veterans. He even has a line of EOD Wines in which a portion of the sales goes to the EOD Warrior Foundation. Complimentary Tasting with the TRDC. Open Thurs-Monday 11am-5pm VILLA SAN JULIETTE VINEYARD & WINERY | This winery’s claim to fame is being owned by American Idol Executive Producer, Nigel Lythgoe, but it holds its own with enchanting views, gorgeous sunsets, and some pretty damn good wine. Open daily 11-5pm. VINO VARGAS | Pedro & Vicky Vargas offer a wide variety of wines that are food friendly and well balanced. Reds, whites, roes, sparkling, and desserts. Visit each winery for a food paring and a complimentary tasting of their chosen blend. Can you guess the blend? October: Third Weekend (Fri-Sun): Harvest Weekend – Harvest in Paso Robles Wine Country is a time of exhaustion, I mean, excitement and celebration. TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS
Shuttle Service: Lush Limousine; The Wine Line; The Wine Wrangler are all great. But you do need to get into town to catch most of them. Call in advance to arrange a pick up for larger parties. For a close-by option, call Grand Cru Limo (805) 285-2805, mention Hartley Farms and ask for Alex.
Private Shuttle: Edith at Cal Limo offers a private shuttle for up to 8 guests in her luxury Mercedes Benz. Edith is from Romania, and has lived in Paso for the past 15 years. She knows all the great stops, and can help you design a custom tour for what you are looking for. Mention Hartley Farms! Train: The Amtrak Station is located near downtown on Pine Street. You typically won’t see a passenger train come through but once a week. To catch a regular scheduled train, you need to get to the San Luis Obispo station (30 minutes south), and it’s going south toward L.A.
Airport: The Paso Robles Airport is only 5 minutes away, but unless you have a private plane you probably won’t be using it. (Although it is fun to watch the planes land from Joe’s One-Niner Diner). Next closest is San Luis Obispo; slightly busier but you will pay a pretty penny to come and go from there. The closest commercial flight airport will be San Jose. The closest International airport will be San Francisco (SFO), or Los Angeles (LAX).
Taxi/Uber: Yes, Uber does come out here! Lyft & Fetch also. This option might be a little pricier because we are so far out from a major city.
